Congratulations Mr. Steve Wilder!

Every year, five recipients receive a Governor’s Award for Excellence in Agriculture within five different categories; lifetime achievement, technical innovation, marketing innovation, environmental stewardship, and education advocacy. On Tuesday February 21st 2017, while in the company of close friends and family, Steve Wilder received the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Agriculture for Education Advocacy. He received this award for his countless years of service and his dedication to bettering Idaho agriculture through educating the next generation of agriculturists.

Steve is a proud University of Idaho Alumni.  He graduated with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in agriculture education from the Agricultural & Extension Education Department. With this degree, he has dedicated the last 37 years of his life to teaching agriculture education at Meridian High School. There, he has played an instrumental role in growing and transitioning the program. He has positively influenced thousands of students involved in the Meridian Agriculture, Science, and Technology Program. He also played a key role in convincing lawmakers to pass the 2015 Agricultural Education Initiative. This provided $2 million more a year for secondary agriculture education in the State of Idaho. Even in the midst of the celebration, Steve was above all humbled by the award and said “It is all of our responsibility to help prepare the next generation of community leaders. As the old saying goes ‘It takes a village’”.
