National Teach Ag Day Celebration

To celebrate the past, present, and future agriculture educators a group of students passionate about teaching agriculture came together on September 20, 2018, to celebrate National Teach Ag Day. The Department of Agricultural and Extension Education hosted an afterparty event that shared with student’s fun ways to implement Virtual Reality into the classroom. In addition to the 16 attendees from the University of Idaho, students from Oregon State University, Penn State University, and Kansas State University joined the fun via conference calls. Needless to say, the event was a hit! The event was split into two parts. The first was an interactive lesson from a Doceo Center intern, Farahan, about virtual reality glasses and using google maps in the classroom. Google glasses were provided to all participants so they could learn firsthand the benefits of such technology. Idaho FFA Foundation Under New Leadership

The Idaho FFA Foundation came under new leadership in June of 2018. Now at the helm of the Foundation is Marcia Jedry, an 18-year veteran of the non-profit sector. A graduate of the University of Delaware with a degree in Business Administration, Jedry is no stranger to organization management and development strategy. Prior to coming onboard with the Idaho FFA Foundation, she was the Finance Director for the Idaho Republican Party, and before that, the Director of Finance & Marketing for the Idaho Association of Commerce & Industry (IACI). In 2014, Jedry earned her Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation, the highest credential that can be earned in the association world. Upon earning her CAE, her goal was to become the Executive Director of an organization that she is passionate about. Czech Republic Study Abroad Opportunity

The University of Idaho offers multiple opportunities for students to study and travel abroad throughout their college career, one of these opportunities is the Czech Republic trip. This travel abroad program took place from May 19 th through May 30 th of 2018. Four undergraduates and one faculty member from the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education attended the program; Bishal Thapa, Maggie Elliot, Annie Bass, Bethany Newtson and Dr. Jeremy Falk.  The activity log for the trip was very diverse and offered a unique look into the agriculture industry within the Czech Republic. Throughout the trip, students were able to reflect and make connections with fellow undergraduates from Kansas State University. The first day allowed for interactions with the USDA FSA office and representatives from the Czech Agrarian Chamber.
