Club of the Year
by Maggie Elliot
Each year the
College of Agricultural and Life Sciences recognizes a student organization
providing outstanding professional development, leadership, and service
opportunities to members.
From touring
high school programs across the Pacific Northwest to the Teach Ag Championship,
members have a diverse array of channels to grow as professionals. Service
projects are a priority for the organization, which seeks to maintain a
presence in the community by donating blankets to Gritman Medical Center,
raising money for Heifer International, and routinely cleaning up a section of
Highway 8.
“Collegiate FFA
is a fun learning lab for students at the University of Idaho because members
plan and implement events as part of CFFA that build skills they’ll use in
their personal and professional lives.” said advisor Dr. Jeremy Falk. Members
are responsible for with a variety of detail oriented tasks such as managing a
banquet and time intensive fundraising projects.
“CFFA allows me
to supplement my education by offering opportunities I would not find in the
classroom.” said junior RyAnna Carter. “Facilitating our fundraiser this year
taught me how to administrate hundreds of invoices and use online tools to
manage orders.”
Members
identified one of the most valuable attributes of the organization as the
connection to faculty. “The ability to get to know professors outside of the
classroom environment is a key element of our department’s close-knit
atmosphere, said junior Lizbeth Bumstead. “Members are never afraid to stop by
offices and ask questions about classes, internships, or seek other advice.”
