Mountain Home High School Ag instructor, Kya Vines, shares the unique experiences that led her to pursue a career in agriculture education and why she loves this profession.  I am a proud alumnus of Mountain Home High School (MHHS) where I have returned to start an Agriculture Science program. In the fall of 2017, I taught the first agriculture class for MHHS. I teach Personal Skills Development, Introduction to Livestock Industry, Agriculture Mechanics, Zoology Fish and Wildlife, Agriculture Welding, Advanced Agriculture Welding, and Agriculture Fabrication. I am very proud to teach agriculture and be an FFA advisor. Though I did not go through an agriculture program in high school myself, I found I was destined to be an agriculture teacher. It wasn’t until I toured the University of Idaho my senior year did I know that being an agriculture teacher was even a career! This job takes dedication and perseverance but is the most rewarding project I have ever been a part of....

This week, the AEE Department is throwing it back to the 2012-2013 Idaho FFA State Officer Team! 

In honor of the 90th National FFA Convention taking place right now in Indianapolis, Indiana, this week the AEE Department is throwing it back to the last National Officer from Idaho, Seth Pratt! Seth served as the 2011-2012 Western Region Vice President. The AEE Department is also sending the best of luck to Idaho's National Officer Candidate, Gretchen Hansten! Gretchen has advanced to the final round of the national officer selection process. Make sure you watch Saturday during the final general session to see the final results and cheer Gretchen on!

Katie Mosman, Ag Instructor at Grangeville High School, shares how agricultural education creates lifelong memories for students      When I introduce SAE projects to my students, they begin by answering a series of questions about what they want their future to look like—is money the driving force behind their work? Is it just a means to end so they can live where they want? Or do they want to be passionate about their daily work?   For me, this activity serves as an annual reminder of why I do what I do. All teachers have those days—sometimes weeks—where we question how sane we were the day we chose our career. Perhaps we even long for the greener pastures of the industry workplace; forever free of the growing stack of papers to grade, IEP meetings, and parent-teacher conferences.
