by Mary Kate Myers CFFA Members Travis Hoyle, Mary Kate Myers, Morgan Meyers, Erin Peek, and Taylor Nelson at Perrine Bridge It was a great week for CFFA members as they traveled down to Twin Falls for Idaho FFA State Leadership Conference (SLC). Members had a busy week of touring local Ag Programs as well as helping in all aspects of SLC. The members that traveled down to SLC with CFFA, had the opportunity to visit two Ag Programs, to see their schools and ask the Ag teachers questions about their programs and teaching styles. CFFA traveled to Burley and met their three Ag teachers; Mr. Lex Godfrey, Mr. Sam Condie, and Ms. Casey Sanders. The three teachers explained the benefits of having three teachers for their Ag program and how they are able to have more classes because they can all split up the work. By Maggie Elliot Congratulations to Genesee A's Parli-Pro team, who will be representing their district at state! At the end of FFA week, the UI campus was flooded with a flurry of blue and gold jackets, shiny black shoes, and the occasional scolding of “Tuck in your tallywacker!” North Idaho CDE’s had begun! Students and staff of the Agricultural Education and Extension department helped to facilitate the FFA Career Development Events of Agronomy, Prepared Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Parliamentary Procedure, hosting approximately seventy FFA members. Students of the department helped judge events, coordinated the contests, and even set up a floriculture workshop. Ag Ed majors chose to become teachers because they thrive on interactions with students, and watching competitions gave a special glimpse into the role as an Ag teacher, motivating college students to keep studying hard and pursue their career goals. Idaho FFA CDE's are Coming to the University of Idaho Get ready, Moscow! On June 1, 2015 Idaho FFA members will be flooding to our campus to compete in thirteen career development events.  CDEs have always been and remain a huge part of teaching and learning. They help the classroom experience come alive for our high school agriculture students. These  events will run throughout the week and will include everything from Agricultural Mechanics to Food Science and Technology, and even Livestock and Meats Evaluations.  The AEE department would like to wish best of luck to all the students competing in the upcoming events. Our department would also like to thank everyone that has volunteered to make next week a huge success. It would not be possible without you. AEE Helps Idaho FFA Rise Above at Convention On April 6th, twenty four AEE students headed to Twin Falls for the FFA State Leadership Conference. Over the four day conference our students helped facilitate leadership workshops, career developments events, and motivational speeches for over 1,000 high school students. During the conference, not only did Collegiate FFA have the unique opportunity to raise awareness for Agriculture. They were also able to recruit new members to the University of Idaho by facilitating a workshop for numerous Idaho FFA members. Our department is so proud of our students dedication to promoting the future of generation of agriculturists. By  helping #FFARISEABOVE!

North Idaho District FFA Career Development Events By: Dr. Jeremy Falk Skills in agriculture were recently demonstrated by FFA members when the North Idaho District (NID) held its Career Development Events with the support of faculty and students in Agricultural and Extension Education. More than 50 high school students participated in three events: Meats Evaluation CDE, Job Interview CDE, and the district officer selection process. Collegiate FFA members were active in running the day’s events and were cheerful guides for the high school students. “It is a fun way to be involved and see behind-the-scenes when we host CDEs on campus. I feel like I’ll be better prepared when I’m an agriculture teacher,” said Pamela Holman, graduate student in Agricultural and Extension Education.
